Asia is the most disaster-prone region in the world, at the mercy of cyclones and typhoons, earthquakes, floods, sandstorms, landslides, and droughts.

Thousands of people have died across the region in a relentless string of events that at first may seem to be the fault of Mother Nature, but the enormous death tolls can be equally blamed on people.

Rafael Senga, a Filipino environmental expert with the World Wildlife Fund, said deforestation, the ever-expanding number of people living in dangerously planned cities and man-made induced climate change were all major problems.
"It's a combination of factors that can lead to a perfect storm for disaster in the region,"
"The aggravating effect of environmental degradation, deforestation and climate change is massive", he added.

The situation in fact is alarming for us. we need to look of what torment we are causing to our own world resulting in the massive climatic changes which in turn are bringing heavy losses to our beloved people.

This all throws into sharp focus the link between natural disasters, poverty reduction, and sustainable development, in Asia. There is a need for a more integrated approach to disaster risk management and mitigation, involving pre-disaster preparedness and post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction.
